Lessons

I teach private piano lessons servicing the Seattle area, primarily on the Eastside but will travel to other locations if needed. My strength as a teacher is to discover what kinds of music my students are drawn to, and to tailor their learning experience around that. In addition to learning music notation and playing technique, my classes also involve music theory, ear training, and improvisation: skills which will serve the student in a variety of musical contexts. I have many years experience playing classical piano; playing in concert and jazz bands; using music technology including synthesizers, drum machines, and production software; playing in my band Vital Quarry; singing in choirs; composing my own music; and writing and singing my own songs. I draw upon this wealth of experience when teaching, and will often make custom arrangements of sheet music tailored to my students’ skill level. I provide students with performance opportunities by hosting two recitals per academic year.
