In June 2022, I participated in the Art Song portion of the Operation Opera Festival run by Four Corners Ensemble at Gonzaga University in Spokane, WA. I wrote three new songs and rehearsed those, along with Sea Rose, with two different singers and an accompanist during the course of a week, culminating in their premiere. There were also lectures, seminars, and masterclasses. Each song sets a poem from H.D.’s first collection of poetry, Sea Garden. Sincere thanks to Ketti Jane Muschler (soprano), James Heer (baritone), and Annie Flood (piano) for bringing these pieces to life, and to Shuying Li and Four Corners Ensemble for hosting this opportunity.
