Rainfire was composed during my junior year of high school while participating in the David Diamond Young Composers Workshop, an educational program of the Seattle Symphony taught by then composer-in-residence Samuel Jones. I took weekly trips to Benaroya Hall and learned chamber music writing with a group of about ten pre-college students. The workshop culminated in a performance of our work by SSO musicians.
